I oversaw the UX Strategy for the product integration leading up to the acquisition of Codecademy by Skillsoft in April 2022.
Context:
Skillsoft is an EdTech company that produces learning management system software and content. The target audience is Fortune 1000 Enterprise clients that span multiple industries.
Their primary product is the Percipio Platform that contains all learning content and allows customers to create customizable learning journeys.
Role:
Sr. Product Designer Manager: I helped define the UX vision and facilitated cross-functional workshops to ensure alignment.
Team:
2 Senior Product Designers
Stakeholders:
Cross-functional squad of PMs, PMM, Engineers, VP of Product
Challenge:
In April 2022, Skillsoft acquired Codecademy with the goal of bringing the interactive content from Codecademy into the Percipio platform. Percipio was primarily a video-first platform so we were tasked with a finding a way to bring in a different content type into the learning user flow as well as support the expansion of our brand into the Percipio platform.
Research & Problem Definition
To gain a better understanding of the technical learner audience we were building this integration for, I worked with the design lead to gather existing data and put together Customer Journey maps so we could use to have a comprehensive overview of the learning journey for our key personas. With the product squad, we identified the major pain points and opportunities with the integration.
Discovery & Validation
The most complex aspect of this project was deciding on the architecture this integration could support. This involved a number of the cross-functional workshops to align on a product direction. I participated to speak on behalf of the UX implications of the various approaches.
From there, our lead designer was able to lead the design process to explore page designs for the new experience. There were many technical limitations with the project so we had to work in step with Engineering on both Codecademy and Skillsoft to ensure feasibility.
